“Chasing Rainbows”

Recovery, Beyond the Storm

As one of our clients nears the end of her journey at Imani Treatment Centre, she steps beyond the structure of the clinic for a weekend at Aquila Private Game Reserve, alongside a friend she met in treatment.

A rainbow stretches across the open sky, a quiet and powerful reminder that hope often follows the storm. It becomes an unexpected marker of the moment, a symbol of possibility as she begins to carry her recovery into the world beyond the clinic.

This experience holds two simple, important intentions.

Returning to Life
Recovery begins with structure, but it cannot stay there.
A weekend away creates space for something more, joy, connection, and presence.

Surrounded by nature and wildlife, and moving through the reserve on a quad biking safari, there is a sense of both freedom and grounding. Riding across open land, encountering animals in their natural rhythm, our clients are reminded that life exists beyond the eating disorder. That there is still beauty to experience, friendships to build, and moments to enjoy. Recovery is not only about healing.
It is a
bout living again.

Practising Recovery
At the same time, the work continues. Outside of the clinic, clients begin to take ownership of their recovery. They maintain their eating structure, make independent choices, and stay connected to what they have learned. It is not about getting everything right. It is about staying engaged.Noticing What Comes Up

These moments matter because they reveal the truth of where someone is in their journey. Strengths become visible. Challenges surface. Both are important. They offer insight, not judgement, and help guide the next steps in recovery.

Taking It Forward
This is the shift, from supported recovery to real-life recovery.Because recovery does not stay inside the clinic. It moves with you, into the world, one step at a time. And sometimes, if you are fortunate, there is a rainbow to remind you just how far you have come!
