We restore the future of those suffering from eating disorders

|About Imani Secondary Care

Imani offers a full continuum of care necessary to complete the recovery process. While the behaviours differ, the underlying feelings of desperation, powerlessness and suffering are universal.

At Imani we firstly deal with the clients destructive behaviours surrounding their illness and then guide them in processing the reasons for this behaviour. We work through a therapeutic community where individuals are part of a group with similar struggles. Through mutual support and shared experience, a healing atmosphere permeates the facility even outside structured therapy sessions.

We are also pleased to announce the opening of our addictions unit, Cape Secondary Care, in January 2013. Click here to view more information

A message from the director

I am extremely proud of the work we do at Imani and of my team of professionals, some of whom are in recovery themselves and all of whom are fiercely dedicated to the treatment of this life threatening illness. Without their dedication and passion Imani would never be what it is today.

My dream and goal for Imani is to keep growing and moving forward both in the way we treat eating disorders and in the amount of people we are able to assist. It is said in our fellowship that the message and goal is that “NO ADDICT NEED EVER DIE FROM THIS DISEASE” this is our ultimate aim at Imani.

No addict ever need die from this disease nor do they need to live the desperately dark life associated with this illness. WE DO RECOVER. It takes courage to change, but it is possible, and at Imani we will do everything in our power to show you how!

I remember coming into Imani and being so sure that I would only be staying for two weeks. I ended up staying for four months. In that time I went from being sure I could not be helped to being sure I could be if I was open to it. I began to see what was possible. It all grows more every day, the longer I stay connected and committed. I learn more about myself and how I want to make my way in the world. And really, that all started when I came into recovery, which started when I came into Imani.

I needed help learning how to face and deal with things in my past and with life in general. I was shown a way that worked for me and helped me to do it. I felt held as I learned and unpacked. It was often painful and still is, but with the support I received - and still receive - I have been able to keep going. Often stumbling but still going forward. I feel so grateful for this journey, challenging as it is. For me it has been so worthwhile. I think about how much I have been able to gain and grow and I am almost moved to tears.

How we can help

Contrary to common misconceptions, eating disorders are more than a reaction to societal pressures on women to conform to a fashionable waistline. These pervasive conditions are, in fact, emotional, physical and even spiritual maladies that leave the individual feeling empty, alone and desolate in all aspects of life.
